CHRB Announces Its New Officers for 2003-2004


RICHMOND —The Commonwealth Health Research Board (CHRB) today announced its new officers for 2003-2004. Dr. Robert P. McBride III, of Richmond has been elected to the position of Chairman and Mr. S. Lawrence Kocot of Alexandria has been elected to the position of Vice Chairman.

Dr. McBride received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Virginia. He also earned a Masters of Business Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University. Dr. McBride has been in private practice with Virginia Women’s Center since 1986. Dr. McBride also serves as the
President of the Richmond OB/GYN Society.

Mr. Kocot received his Juris Doctor from the Georgetown University Law Center. He also earned a Master of Legal Letters in International and Comparative Law, With Distinction, from the Georgetown University Law Center. In addition, Mr. Kocot holds a B.A. and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Mr. Kocot is currently Senior Vice President and General Counsel to the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS).

Dr. McBride was appointed to the CHRB by Governor Allen in 1997 and reappointed by Governor Gilmore in 2000. Mr. Kocot was appointed by Governor Warner to the CHRB in April 2002.

The CHRB was established in 1997 by the Virginia General Assembly using funds provided from the conversion of Trigon from a mutual company to a stock company. The CHRB awards grants for traditional medical and biomedical research as well as research related to health services and the delivery of health care.
